The story behind
I Need You, according to DoReSol
In A Quick One, the second album by The Who, there is a particularity: it is not only Pete Townshend who contributes compositions. On this album, each member of the band had the opportunity to showcase their songwriting talent. Roger Daltrey added one piece, while John Entwistle and the drummer Keith Moon, who composed the music for I Need You, contributed two songs each. This album also includes a cover of Heat Wave, a track by Holland–Dozier–Holland, and closes with a musical suite titled A Quick One, While He's Away, which later inspired the band's rock operas.
The album A Quick One was released in the United Kingdom on December 9, 1966. In the United States, however, it was published in April 1967 under the name Happy Jack, with a slightly modified tracklist. The production of this work was led by Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp. With a duration of 2:20, I Need You is part of this collection of songs where the band explored the creative diversity of its members.
