The story behind
Upon listening to I’m the One, one can notice how the band Molotov plays with different speeds and ways of singing, creating a sound that feels very much their own. This piece, which lasts just over three minutes, is part of their third album, Dance and Dense Denso, released in 2003. The production of this album was handled by figures such as Gustavo Santaolalla and Aníbal Kerpel, who helped shape a work that, as is usual for Molotov, addresses social and political themes.
Within Dance and Dense Denso, one also finds Frijolero, a song that focuses on the complexities of the border between Mexico and the United States, and the experiences of those who seek to cross it. The album, in general, touches on aspects of American culture that are often perceived negatively, such as the war in Iraq and substance abuse.
