The story behind

I Love You Because, according to DoReSol

The story of I Love You Because is a clear example of how a song can have multiple lives and resonate in different ways. Originally, it was the composer Leon Payne who brought it to public attention in 1949, achieving that his version reached number 4 on Billboard's country music charts and remained there for thirty-two weeks. For Payne, this piece was his only hit on the country charts.

It was in 1954 when Elvis Presley recorded I Love You Because at the SUN studios in Memphis, Tennessee. The session, which began on July 4th and extended into the early morning of the 5th, also saw the birth of the track That's All Right. Although producer Sam Phillips did not consider it the ideal choice for Elvis's first single, the song ended up being released as the B-side of Tryin' to Get to You. Both pieces were later included on the debut album by Elvis Presley, released in 1956. Johnny Cash's version also had its moment, released by Sun Records in December 1959. Later, in 1963, Al Martino achieved the most successful version up to that point, reaching third place on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Adult Contemporary chart for two weeks in May of that year. A year later, in 1964, Jim Reeves recorded his own interpretation for the album Gentleman Jim, which became his most successful single in Norway and reached number 5 in the United Kingdom. Even in 1976, a decade after his passing, a version by Jim Reeves topped a posthumous album that reached number 24 on the US country charts.
