The story behind
Hola adiós, according to DoReSol
In Cuatro Caminos, the fifth album by Café Tacvba, the band shaped a sound that was no longer just rock with experimental touches, but something more organic. In that search, Hola adiós stands out as a track that breaks with what came before: here, the drums and percussion sound real, without studio tricks, and that gives each beat a different weight. It’s not a long song — it lasts just under four minutes — but in that time, it achieves something few of their songs had done before: an air between nostalgic and urgent, as if the goodbye it announces were already happening while they sing it.
The recording of this album was an experiment in itself. In the studio, they mixed human hands with ideas that came from afar: Dave Fridmann, Aníbal Kerpel, Gustavo Santaolalla and Andrew Weiss took turns producing, each bringing their own perspective on how to capture that sound which no longer fit into rhythm boxes. The album was released in July 2003, but the process had begun earlier, when the band was still rehearsing in Naucalpan, near where the Toreo de Cuatro Caminos once stood. There, between streets and memories, they crafted something that sounded like both a farewell and a restart at the same time.
