The story behind

The first time you hear Hells Bells, it's almost impossible not to be struck by that deep, resonant sound that kicks off the song. It's no ordinary instrument; it's a real bell, weighing almost a ton, specially made for the occasion. The band wanted to create an atmosphere that would accompany the moment they were living through, and the idea of using a bell was born while they were composing. They tried recording it in a church, but the ambient noise and birds were disruptive. In the end, they ended up recording those iconic chimes inside the very foundry where it was made, using a mobile studio. Those 13 slow notes that open the piece became a hallmark, a harbinger of the intensity that would follow.This track, which is part of the album Back in Black, was written by Angus Young, Brian Johnson, and Malcolm Young. The recording of Back in Black, released in 1980, took place shortly after the tragic death of vocalist Bon Scott. Brian Johnson took over as singer, and Hells Bells is one of the first songs to introduce his voice to the world. The song's structure begins with the bell, followed by Angus Young's guitar riff, joined by Malcolm Young to create that characteristic album sound. Then, the rhythm section of Cliff Williams on bass and Phil Rudd on drums joins in to build a "wall of sound." The lyrics, sung by Johnson, describe a force arriving to take a soul, comparing its actions to natural phenomena like rain, thunder, and hurricanes.
