The story behind
When the band faced the loss of their lead singer, Bon Scott, in February 1980, the idea of continuing seemed uncertain. However, after Scott's death in London, the members of AC/DC decided to move forward. The choice of Brian Johnson, who came from the band Geordie, marked the beginning of a new era. The songwriting for Have a Drink on Me, along with the rest of the album, fell to Johnson and brothers Angus and Malcolm Young.
The recording of this album took place in the Bahamas over seven weeks, between April and May 1980. With Robert John “Mutt” Lange producing, and the assistance of engineers such as Tony Platt, Benjamin Armbrister, and Jack Nuber, the final mix was handled by Brad Samuelsohn. This work, released on July 25, 1980, by Albert Productions and Atlantic Records, became AC/DC's first album with Brian Johnson on lead vocals and consolidated the sound the band had been exploring since previous albums like Highway to Hell. The duration of Have a Drink on Me is 3 minutes and 59 seconds.
