The story behind
Hang On in There, according to DoReSol
Queen recorded Hang On in There at a time when the band had already surpassed decades of touring and recording, yet their energy remained intact. This track, which only appeared on the CD version of The Miracle, has a curious detail: it was composed by all four members, something uncommon in their later works. Brian May handled the guitars — both acoustic and electric — and even contributed keyboards, sharing the role with Freddie Mercury. The result is a song that sounds like those rehearsals where the band tested ideas without filters, with layered sounds intertwining without forcing the mix.
The song was originally intended as the B-side of the single I Want It All, but ended up becoming a hidden gem. It was recorded in 1988, during the sessions for The Miracle, an album released in May 1989. By then, Queen had already spent years touring the world, yet in the studio they worked with the same intensity as always. Engineers Andrew Bradfield, John Brough, and the rest of the technical team — including producer David Richards — managed to capture that raw yet polished sound characteristic of the band. At just three minutes and forty-seven seconds, Hang On in There is one of those songs that goes unnoticed in the tracklist but gains weight when listened to carefully.
