Half a Woman, Half a Shadow

When Roxette was recording their second album, Look Sharp!, in 1988, the process took place between March and September in studios in Stockholm and London. This album, released on October 21 of that year, quickly became a resounding success in their native Sweden, reaching number one and earning multiple platinum certifications. Although the international impact took a little longer to consolidate, Look Sharp! was the springboard that catapulted the Swedish duo to worldwide fame.

The band, made up of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, had already released their debut album, Pearls of Passion, in 1986. However, it was with Look Sharp! that Roxette achieved their major international breakthrough. Four of the singles released from this work achieved notable commercial success, and in the United States, the album achieved platinum certification. Songs like "The Look" and "Listen to Your Heart" reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, marking a milestone for a Swedish duo. Roxette's career, which officially began in 1986, spanned over two decades, during which they sold millions of albums and singles, and became the first non-English speaking band to record an unplugged session for MTV.
