The story behind

Frozen, according to DoReSol

When you dive into *Frozen*, you encounter an atmosphere that captivates you from the first moment. The song unfolds with an electronic sound that feels deep and enveloping, a ballad that goes beyond the conventional. What makes it special is that sense of emotional coldness it conveys, as if it were talking about someone who cannot connect, a theme woven with layers of synthesizers and string arrangements that give it an almost cinematic dimension. The recording, made in 1997, sought precisely that texture, with producers like William Orbit and Patrick Leonard working alongside Madonna to create a distinctive soundscape.

The release of *Frozen* in January 1998 as the first single from Ray of Light marked a moment of deep introspection for Madonna. Following the birth of her daughter Lourdes and her interest in Eastern mysticism and Kabbalah, coupled with her role in the film Evita (1996), her artistic approach mutated. The album Ray of Light, released in February 1998, moved away from her previous work, exploring genres such as electronica and trip hop. *Frozen*, with its composition by Madonna and Patrick Leonard, and shared production, became a worldwide commercial success. It reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and debuted at number one in the United Kingdom, in addition to topping the charts in Finland, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Scotland, and Spain. The music video, filmed at Cuddeback Lake in California and directed by Chris Cunningham, captured that ethereal and mysterious essence, winning an award for its special effects in 1998.
