The story behind
The composition of (On) the Seventh Day, with music by Gustavo Cerati, was conceived during a period of intense creativity for Soda Stereo. The track, which is part of the album Canción Animal, was recorded at Criteria Recording Studios in Miami, Florida, during June and July of 1990. The production was handled by Gustavo Cerati and Zeta Bosio, who worked on this material shortly before its official release on August 7, 1990, under the Sony Music Latin label. The piece's duration is 4:26.
This album, Canción Animal, became a benchmark for Soda Stereo and for rock in Ibero-America. The band, made up of Gustavo Cerati on vocals and guitar, Zeta Bosio on bass and backing vocals, and Charly Alberti on drums, had already established an influential career since the 1980s. Their early musical steps showed influences from new wave groups like Virus and The Police, as well as Television and Elvis Costello. Over time, their sound evolved towards alternative rock, incorporating elements of classic rock, progressive rock, shoegaze, neo-psychedelia, britpop, and electronic music.
