The story behind

The song Emit Remmus, with its four-minute duration, holds a particular story in its lyrics, inspired in part by the friendship of Anthony Kiedis with Melanie Chisholm, known for her role in the Spice Girls. The song's theme explores the connection between an American man and an English woman, and it is said that the title itself is a wordplay, being "summer time" read backward.

This track is part of the album Californication, released in 1999, which marked a turning point for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The production was handled by Rick Rubin and it was distributed by Warner Bros. Records. An important detail of this era is the return of John Frusciante to the guitar, replacing Dave Navarro. This change brought about a sonic evolution for the band, moving away from the style of the previous album, One Hot Minute (1995), and exploring new textures. The album, in addition to Emit Remmus, contains other well-known tracks such as Around the World, Otherside, Californication, and Scar Tissue.
