Sumo recorded in 1985 an album that changed the course of their sound: Divididos por la felicidad, their first full-length work. Among the songs that make it up, one stands out for its blend of relaxed rhythms and lyrics that seem to float over the base. El reggae de paz y amor is not just another track on the album, but a moment where the band manages to capture that mix of calm and energy that would later define them. The bass and drums lay down a groove that repeats, but there's something in the guitar that makes it sound different from what was being heard in Buenos Aires at the time.The album was recorded at CBS Records studios during the first months of 1985, and its live debut took place in May of that year at the Astros theater. For Luca Prodan, the band's leader, this was the moment when Sumo stopped being a bar and pub project to become a name that began to resonate beyond the underground scene. The song lasts four minutes and sixteen seconds, just enough time for the atmosphere they create not to become repetitive.
