The story behind
The first time I heard El loco, it took me by surprise: that sharp, repetitive opening riff sounds like a warning. It's not a song that invites you to dance, but to pay attention. Babasónicos' voice kicks in just as the rhythm becomes more tense, as if the narrator were telling something they can't let go of. The contrast between the catchy melody and the lyrics—about a character who resists being tamed—gives it that air of contradiction that makes the song unforgettable.
Recorded in Argentina during the year the country was going through one of its worst crises, El loco ended up reflecting that moment: urgent, direct, and unfiltered. It lasts barely three minutes, yet in that time it sounds bigger than many long tracks. Rolling Stone magazine included it among the 100 best albums of Argentine rock, and the Sí! supplement of the newspaper Clarín named it "album of the year." Even in Los Angeles, it won an award as "best Latin rock album." They weren't aiming for perfection, but authenticity—and they nailed it.
