The story behind
In Los calientes, Babasónicos not only sounds different from what they had been doing, but it marks a turning point in their own path. The song has that mix of urgency and boldness that characterized them in Jessico, but with a more compact feel, as if they had pressed the fast-forward button in the studio. The bass and drums intertwine in a relentless rhythm, while the guitar sneaks in with sharp riffs that seem to come straight out of an impromptu rehearsal. There are no unnecessary fillers: everything is there to sustain that nervous energy, as if the song itself were in a hurry to finish before it got out of hand.
The album Jessico was released at a key moment for the band and the country. Argentina had just emerged from December 2001, with the country in the midst of a crisis that shook everything, and they managed to stand out among the most listened-to groups of the time. Los calientes was no exception: it won "Album of the Year" in polls by Rolling Stone, Inrokuptibles, and the supplement Sí! from Clarín, and even the musicians who voted in Página chose it as the best of 2001. Beyond borders, the magazine Elástica from Los Ángeles awarded it as the best Latin rock of that year.
