El crucero del amor

The Love Cruise floats on a rhythm that won’t let go. The bass and percussion carve a path between ska and reggae, yet never fully settling in either: it’s as if the song sails on a boat rocking between genres, never in a hurry but never still. The trumpet melody enters afterward, clear and direct, like a lighthouse guiding the journey. It’s not a track you listen to once and forget; on the contrary, every time it plays again, it feels like an invitation to climb onto the deck and let yourself be carried away.

Recorded in 1992 inside El León, this album broke away from what the band had done before. Los Cadillacs blended salsa, calypso, and even a touch of ska in one place, and The Love Cruise is the clearest example of that mix. It wasn’t the first single from the album—that spot belonged to Carnaval toda la vida—but it ended up being one of those songs that sticks in the memory. The music video, which won the first Video of the People award from MTV Latin America in 1994, helped the song cross borders without needing explanations. It lasted 4:25 on the album, but on the radio and at festivals it felt shorter, because the crowd was already dancing before it ended.
