The story behind
Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say), according to DoReSol
When you dive into Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say), you encounter a song that moves away from the frenetic rhythm that defines much of The Fame. It's a moderate-tempo ballad, with an air reminiscent of calypso, and its lyrics speak directly of closing one chapter and opening up to a new relationship. The recording took place at Cherrytree Recording Studios in Santa Monica, California. Behind the production was Martin Kierszenbaum, who founded Cherrytree Records in 2005 alongside Jimmy Iovine. He worked with Lady Gaga on her debut album, collaborating on four tracks, including this one. During those sessions, Gaga gave Kierszenbaum the nickname "Cherry Cherry Boom Boom," a moniker that stuck with the songs they created together.
This track was released as a single in several European countries, as well as Australia and New Zealand in early 2009, and later in France. While it didn't achieve the same popularity as other cuts from The Fame, it did perform well on charts, reaching number fifteen in Australia and number nine in New Zealand. It also stood out in Sweden, where it climbed to second place, and had a presence in the top ten in the Czech Republic, France, and Hungary. Sales in Australia, Denmark, New Zealand, and the United States earned it Gold certifications. The music video, set in New York's Little Italy with a 1950s aesthetic, shows Gaga in everyday scenes, contrasting with her previous image. Musically, it is described as a blend of synth-pop and bubblegum pop influences, with a duration of 2:57.
