The story behind
Dust N’ Bones, according to DoReSol
The raw energy of Dust N’ Bones is felt from the very first moment. It’s one of those songs that grabs you with its straightforward rhythm and that atmosphere that makes you think of a dimly lit bar. What’s interesting about this track is how it was built, with a rather large team of recording engineers: Allen Abrahamson, John Aguto, Buzz Burrowes, Mike Clink, Mike Douglass, Leon Ganado, Ed Goodreau, Jim Mitchell, Craig Portelis, Chris Puram, Jason Roberts, Talley Sherwood and L. Stu Young worked on it, and the final mix was handled by Bill Price. The total runtime is 4 minutes and 58 seconds, a duration that allows for that sense of urgency and boldness that defines it.
This song is part of Use Your Illusion I, released by Guns N’ Roses on September 17, 1991, the same day as its companion Use Your Illusion II. It was a moment of change for the band, as it marked the arrival of keyboardist Dizzy Reed and drummer Matt Sorum, who took over from Steven Adler after his departure in 1990. The supporting tour, Use Your Illusion Tour, began in May 1991, even before the albums were available, due to certain delays. The record debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, selling 685,000 copies in its first week in the United States.
