The story behind

Dress You Up, according to DoReSol

When you start playing *Dress You Up*, you encounter a song that, beyond its catchy rhythm, hides an interesting story about how it became part of *Like a Virgin*. It turns out it was the last piece to be added to the album. The songwriters, Andrea LaRusso and Peggy Stanziale, submitted it late in the recording process. Initially, producer Nile Rodgers hesitated to include it due to time constraints, but Madonna insisted and convinced him it was essential. The lyrics, which use fashion as a metaphor to talk about passion, generated some controversy at the time, even being mentioned on a list of "dirty" songs.

Musically, *Dress You Up* is defined as a dance-pop track, with an energy that invites movement. The recording took place in 1984 at Power Station studios in New York, and it was produced by Nile Rodgers, who also contributed a guitar solo. The song was officially released as a single on July 31, 1985, being the fourth and final cut from *Like a Virgin*. Its commercial success was notable, reaching the top positions on major charts like the Billboard Hot 100 and placing in the top ten in countries such as Australia, Belgium, Canada, and Ireland. Furthermore, this song has been part of several Madonna tours, and a live version from the 1985 Virgin Tour was used as a promotional video.
