The story behind
The song Cuccurucucù, with its 4:13 duration, is from the album La voce del padrone, released by Franco Battiato in 1981. This work became a milestone, being the first full-length record in Italy to sell over a million copies. It remained at the top of the charts for eighteen non-consecutive weeks throughout 1982, consolidating the fame of the Sicilian artist. The album title, La voce del padrone, is a nod to the homonymous record label, a subsidiary of the British His Master's Voice.
Franco Battiato, born Francesco Battiato in Ionia in 1945 and passed away in Milo in 2021, was a multifaceted figure in the Italian scene, excelling as a singer-songwriter, composer, musician, director, and painter. His career was characterized by a constant exploration of diverse musical styles, fusing them in an original way. From his beginnings in the sixties, through the experimental music of the seventies, to avant-garde, ethnic music, progressive rock, light music, electronic music, and opera, Battiato demonstrated remarkable versatility. He frequently collaborated with talents such as violinist Giusto Pio and philosopher Manlio Sgalambro, who co-wrote many of his songs. His lyrics, in addition to the music, reflected his deep interests in philosophy, esotericism, Sufi mysticism, and Eastern meditation.
