The story behind
Crying Over You, according to DoReSol
The song Crying Over You by UB40, lasting 3 minutes and 59 seconds, draws from the reggae and dub sound that characterized this English band. The arrangement of this piece was handled by the band members themselves, who also shared production duties alongside Dan Armstrong and Danny Canaan. This track immerses itself in the sonic atmosphere the band cultivated since their beginnings in Birmingham, England, in 1978.
The origins of UB40 are tied to the childhood friendship of its eight members, who came from working-class backgrounds and diverse origins. Curiously, the first instruments they acquired were financed by a sum Ali received after an incident in a pub, and some of them were still learning to play them. After recording a demo that caught the attention of a radio station, they began performing in local venues. It was Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders who, upon seeing them perform, gave them the opportunity to be supporting acts on her 1979 tour. The following year, in 1980, they released their debut album, Signing off, and founded their own label, DEP International, through which they released Present Arms in Dub. The major boost to their career came in 1983 with their rendition of *Red Red Wine*, originally by Neil Diamond, included in the cover album Labour of Love, which opened the doors to mass recognition.
