The story behind

Coração Vagabundo, according to DoReSol

The song Coração Vagabundo, written by Caetano Veloso, stands out for its deep connection with bossa nova, a style that blends soft rhythms with sophisticated harmonies. Composed in his youth in Bahia, this piece became one of Veloso’s own favorites, whom he considers one of his most enduring works. The lyrics reflect an introspective sensitivity that foreshadows the tropicalist movement that would consolidate shortly after. In fact, Caetano has mentioned that his composition is influenced by the poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade, though he himself describes it as "very naive" compared to the poet’s work.

Since its release in 1967, as part of the album Domingo —which he recorded alongside Gal Costa—, Coração Vagabundo has resonated throughout Caetano’s work and has been reinterpreted by numerous artists. A significant moment in its history was the duet he performed in 2009 with Argentine singer Mercedes Sosa, included in her album Cantora. More recently, in 2020, the song was recorded in a new duet between Gal Costa and Rubel, as part of a project revisiting Gal’s discography in collaboration with contemporary male voices. This song, lasting 2:25, remains a testament to the musical richness of Caetano Veloso and his ability to touch on universal themes through music that invites reflection.
