The story behind
Clan in da Front, according to DoReSol
Wu-Tang Clan recorded Clan in da Front in a small New York studio, with a limited budget. The song was released in 1993 as part of their first album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), produced by RZA. The beat is fast, with a rough sound reminiscent of martial arts films. The lyrics are direct, with jokes and references to street culture. The song was recorded in a Brooklyn studio, where several members of the group were together, sometimes in small and crowded spaces. RZA used a competition system to decide who would be on each track, which led to a confrontation between Method Man and Raekwon on a song that did not make it onto the original album.
