The story behind
Chain Saw, according to DoReSol
The song Chain Saw by Ramones has a duration of 1:56 and its inspiration comes directly from the film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It was Joey who wrote it after seeing that movie, capturing a raw and direct energy that would become a hallmark for the band.
The debut album by Ramones, the one that includes Chain Saw, was recorded in January 1976 in just seven days, with a budget of $6,400. The production was handled by Thomas Erdelyi and Craig Leon, while the sound engineering was done by Rob Freeman and Don Hünerberg. The band, formed in 1974 in Forest Hills, New York, was characterized by a fast and minimalist sound, in contrast to the more elaborate rock of the time. Their simple and repetitive compositions, often with direct or even abstract lyrics, laid the foundation for the punk genre.
