The story behind
Canción con todos, according to DoReSol
The Song with All is a theme that resonates with the idea of a deep and universal connection. Beyond being a standout performance by Mercedes Sosa, it encapsulates a spirit of unity that transcends borders. She herself saw herself more as a "cantora," someone who feels the need to express, rather than a "singer" who simply performs. This distinction, which she shared with the Latin American New Song movement, is reflected in the strength and feeling she conveys in each performance.
Born in San Miguel de Tucumán in 1935 and passed away in Buenos Aires in 2009, Mercedes Sosa, affectionately known as La Negra Sosa or The Voice of America, became a central figure in Argentine folk music. Her voice resonated not only in her country but also in America, Europe, Israel, and East Asia, establishing herself as one of the main popular voices of Latin America. She was a key figure in the New Song Movement and an exponent of the Nueva Canción, also exploring genres such as tango, rock, and pop throughout her career. Among her most remembered performances are pieces like Alfonsina y el mar, Gracias a la vida, and Todo cambia, in addition to this powerful Canción con todos.
