The story behind
Camarín, according to DoReSol
In Camarín time seems to stretch without ever losing its pulse. The song unfolds with a cadence that is neither slow nor fast, but as if it breathes in its own meter, where the verses glide over a foundation that oscillates between the hypnotic and the urgent. The track doesn’t settle for convention: it begins with an air of intimacy, almost as if someone were whispering in your ear, but suddenly the intensity grows without warning, dragging the listener into a territory where the melodic and the raw blend shamelessly. It’s that duality—between restraint and explosiveness—that gives it its most distinctive mark, as if the song harbored a small, controlled chaos within itself. The album Jessico was recorded at a pivotal moment for the band: Argentina was just emerging from the December 2001 crisis, and the record arrived both as a reflection of that climate and as a gesture of overcoming.
Babasónicos already had a solid track record, but with Jessico they confirmed they could be much more than a local band. Camarín was one of the tracks that resonated most in that context, not only for its sound but for how it captured that mix of tension and elegance that defined the album. It lasted 5:21, long enough for the song to unfold its magic without haste, yet never losing its way. Recognition came swiftly: in the country, Jessico dominated polls in Rolling Stone, Inrokuptibles, and the Sí! supplement of Clarín, while among musicians it was voted the best of 2001 by the NO supplement of Página 12.
Beyond Argentina, it even won the award for best Latin rock in a poll by the Los Angeles magazine Elástica.
