The story behind
Cadillac, according to DoReSol
The track Cadillac, with its duration of 2:41, is taken from the early recordings of The Kinks. All compositions from this initial period bear the signature of Ray Davies, who led the band alongside his brother Dave Davies from their formation in 1964 in Muswell Hill, North London. The sound of The Kinks in its early days drew from diverse influences, ranging from R&B to British music hall, folk, and country, a mix that allowed them to stand out within the so-called British Invasion in the United States.
This initial work, which includes Cadillac, was released in 1964 as Kinks in the United Kingdom. However, in the United States, the same set of songs was published under the title You Really Got Me, although omitting three tracks from the original list. Subsequently, in 1998, the album was reissued in the United Kingdom by Castle Records, adding twelve additional tracks. A new version of this compilation appeared in 2004, this time with the backing of Sanctuary Records. It is interesting to note that some of these tracks, specifically those numbered 7 to 10, come from the EP Kinksize Session.
