The story behind
The Kinks recorded You Really Got Me in July 1964, in a London studio. The song was released as a single in August, reached number one in the UK singles chart and stayed there for two weeks. It was a breakthrough that put them on the map. The guitar sound is distorted, something Dave Davies achieved by inserting a razor blade and pins into his amplifier. It was affectionately called «little green». The guitar he used is a 1962 Harmony Meteor. The solo is by Dave, although during the recordings Jimmy Page, who was a session musician, was present. The song became a classic of garage rock and punk. Many artists covered it afterwards, such as Van Halen, who popularized it again in the 70s. ↓ Skip to chords
