The story behind
The beat of Bodak Yellow is one of those that doesn't need much to stick. A bass loop that hits like a hammer and a rhythm that moves without haste but without pause, leaving just enough space for Cardi B's voice to shift between a whisper and a shout. The song has no traditional chorus: every line sounds like a hook, every word carries its own rhythmic weight. The lyrics don't ask for permission: they list achievements, challenge critics, and celebrate the rise from the Bronx to the top of the charts. There's something in that mix of arrogance and vulnerability that makes it sound authentic, as if each verse came from a real conversation among friends.
It was recorded at Krematorium Studios, in Elmont, New York, at a time when Cardi B hadn't yet signed with a major label. Producer Jermaine "J. White Did It" White —a Dallas native who met the rapper through a mutual manager— crafted the instrumental on a minimalist trap base, with that gritty feel reminiscent of early hip hop hits from the 90s. The lyrics were written in collaboration with Pardison Fontaine and Klenord Raphael, but Kodak Black's name appears in the credits because the track borrows the flow from his song No Flockin (2015). In fact, Kodak Black ended up making an official remix. The video, filmed in Dubai
