The story behind

The song Blues With a Feeling is a prime example of how a piece can evolve through an artist's interpretation. Originally written and recorded in 1947 by Rabon Tarrant alongside Jack McVea and his All Stars, this track began as a jump blues style. However, it was Little Walter who transformed it into a Chicago blues classic, imprinting his signature sound with the harmonica, which made it a benchmark for blues musicians. Its distinctive sound captures the deep sentiment that defines the genre and is considered one of the essential pieces for harmonica players.

This song is part of the album The Best of Little Walter, released in 1957, which compiles ten of his most successful songs on the Billboard R&B chart between 1952 and 1955, along with a couple of B-sides. This album was the first to be released by Checker Records and remains the only one issued during Little Walter's lifetime. Although it has been reissued multiple times, the 20-track collection titled Little Walter His Best: Chess 50th Anniversary Collection has taken its place as the most comprehensive version of his work. The album cover features a black-and-white portrait captured by Grammy-winning photographer Don Bronstei, adding a visual touch to the story of this artist and his music.
