The story behind
Besos con sal, according to DoReSol
The song Besos con sal, with its duration of 3 minutes and 45 seconds, is one of the pieces that make up the ninth studio album by Joaquín Sabina, titled Esta boca es mía. This discographic work saw the light of day in 1994, two years after Física y química. Although Esta boca es mía did not achieve the same commercial impact as its predecessor, it did achieve good sales figures and received positive reviews, in addition to leaving some songs that became hits. In that mid-nineties stage, Sabina was at a moment of maturity both personally and professionally, facing the challenge of creating an album on par with, or even superior to, Física y química. To do this, as was customary, he counted on the collaboration of his usual companions, Pancho Varona and Antonio García de Diego, who were responsible for most of the arrangements.
Joaquín Ramón Martínez Sabina, born in Úbeda, Jaén, in 1949, is a Spanish singer-songwriter and poet whose work has resonated strongly in Spanish-speaking countries. Throughout his career, he has released fourteen studio albums, four live albums, and three compilations, in addition to collaborating with various artists in duets and other participations. He has also composed for other performers such as Ana Belén or Miguel Ríos. His live albums record solo performances or with other musicians, such as La mandrágora (1981) with Javier Krahe and Alberto Pérez, Joaquín Sabina y Viceversa en directo (1986) with the band Viceversa, Nos sobran los motivos (2000), Dos pájaros de un tiro (2007), and La orquesta del Titanic (2012) with Joan Manuel Serrat. In his literary facet, he has published nine books that compile song lyrics or poems, some of them appearing in the weekly magazine Interviú. In 2001, a minor cerebral infarction put his life at risk, but he recovered without physical sequelae. This incident, however, marked a before and after in his way of seeing things, leading him to a deep depression and a temporary retirement from the stage. After overcoming this period, he released Dímelo en la calle (2002), followed by his eighteenth album, Alivio de luto (2005). His latest solo album, Vinagre y rosas, was released on November 17, 2009, and sold 200,000 copies in just one month.
