The story behind
As cores de abril, according to DoReSol
This song by Vinícius de Moraes carries the color of an April in Rio, where light and rhythm blend like watercolors. It is not just a melody, but a moment captured in four minutes: the poet’s voice glides over chords that seem painted with loose brushstrokes, as if each note carried the weight of a sunset in Janeiro. What is most surprising is how the theme flows without haste, allowing the listener to immerse themselves in that atmosphere—both nostalgic and luminous—as if time had stopped in any ordinary April.
The lyrics were born from the hand of a man who lived between verse and diplomacy, Marcus Vinícius da Cruz de Melo Morais, born in Rio de Janeiro on October 19, 1913, and who passed away there in 1980. By then, he had already left his mark on Brazilian music with works that are now anthems, such as Garota de Ipanema. This piece, however, has that intimate air of someone writing from personal experience, without seeking grandiloquence. The exact duration of four minutes—no more, no less—reflects that intention: nothing is superfluous, everything is precisely where it should be.
