The story behind
Apêlo, according to DoReSol
Toquinho and Vinicius de Moraes recorded Apêlo in a single take, without cuts or adjustments, while improvising in a studio in Milan. The album O poeta e o violão was born from that relaxed session in 1975, where the two let themselves be carried away by laughter, mistakes, and casual remarks. Toquinho's guitar was the only accompaniment, and between jokes and anecdotes, they revisited decades of collaborations, from their time with Antônio Carlos Jobim and Baden Powell to their own creations with Vinicius.
The magic of Apêlo lies in its simplicity: three and a half minutes of violão and voice flowing effortlessly. They were not seeking perfection, but rather capturing the moment, and the result was an album remembered today for its authenticity. Vinicius recited with the same ease with which Toquinho played, as if each note and each word emerged simultaneously, without planning.
