The story behind
Años, according to DoReSol
The song Años, with its duration of 5 minutes and 3 seconds, is presented as a piece where the voice of Mercedes Sosa unfolds in its full splendor. The production of this work involved the collaboration of Víctor Manuel and Geoff Westley as producers, while the arrangement work fell to Geoff Westley. The sound engineering was handled by a team that included Geoff Calver, Mike Cooper, Alberto Pinto, Tim Thompson, and Geoff Westley himself, with the final mixing done by Richard Manwaring.
Mercedes Sosa, born in San Miguel de Tucumán in 1935 and passed away in Buenos Aires in 2009, was a central figure in Argentine folk music. Known as "La Negra Sosa" or "The Voice of America," her reach transcended borders, being recognized on continents such as Europe and Asia, as well as Israel. She is considered one of the most important voices in Latin America. She was a pioneer of the Nuevo Cancionero Movement and a key exponent of the Latin American Nueva Canción, also exploring genres like tango, rock, and pop. She herself defined herself as a "cantora," a distinction that resonated with the ideal of the new Latin American song, emphasizing that "the singer is the one who must."
