The story behind

The first time you listen to All of Your Love by Magic Sam, you're stuck with that relentless guitar, as if the blues had found its most urgent version. It's not just the rhythm — there's something in the air, a heat that doesn't fade even in the oldest recordings. The song moves forward with a confidence few 60s blues tracks had: it doesn't sound like a relic, but something still alive, as if the musician had recorded every note intending for the listener to feel the sweat on the fretboard.

Recorded in 1968 for West Side Soul, this track didn't start there: it's a renewed version of a single Magic Sam had released eleven years earlier with Cobra Records. The difference isn't just in production — the sound of the electric guitar here has an edge it didn't have before. Producer Robert G. Koester managed to capture that energy in three and a half minutes, without retouches to soften the edges. The result is a blues that doesn't ask for permission: it advances like a train at night, with that mix of tenderness and fierceness that keeps the genre from aging.
