More about Nina Suárez
Biography
Before the Premio Cóndor arrived, Nina had already dabbled in film. At 12, in Cecilia Kang’s short Videojuegos, she acted alongside her best childhood friend and discovered that play could be work. But it was in 2017, with Arpón—Tom Espinoza’s debut feature—that she took the leap into feature films. She also shared the screen with her mother in Milagros Mumenthaler’s La idea de un lago and Ezequiel Radusky’s Planta permanente, two films that taught her that cinema, like music, is a craft of trial and error. In Implosión, however, she found something different: a character that let her feel, for the first time, that she was starting to live the adult life she had always imagined with her mother. “Now I am my own mother,” she sometimes says, and though the idea drives her crazy, she also thinks it’s great. Rosario was always one to push forward, and Nina inherited that drive, that zero cynicism that keeps her moving—whether she’s rapping on a borrowed stage or recording songs in a car that smells of freedom.
