Nina Suárez

Nina Suárez is 22 years old and drives a three-door gray car, a Gol that she got the first time she traveled on the road to perform with her band. She loves the car, calls it “my golcito” and describes it as something cute, even though it's used. She bought it recently, partly with the money she saved after acting in a movie with her mother. It was the first time she took a driving test, but she passed it after some time. She celebrated with a choripán for her instructor, a bandmate who is ten years older than her.

In her family, no one knew how to drive, and no one taught her. There was no car, but she always wanted one. They started saving before her mother died in 2020. “I wanted to be the first in the family to drive and I did it,” she says with joy. Her father is a musician, her mother, a person who gets involved in everything. Together they formed a band in the nineties that had a lot of influence on Argentine independent music, but they lived very simply at home.

More about Nina Suárez

Biography

Nina Suárez started acting in film and theater at a very young age. At twelve, she appeared in a short film, where she did a brief scene with her childhood friend. She liked the idea that it was a job, even if it was brief. Later she starred in her first feature film in 2,017, acted with her mother in two movies, and more recently in one about a school shooting. For that movie she won an award. “The first time I had a beer was with some electricians from that movie. I liked the idea that I was young but also starting a more adult life,” she says, with a fun and happy attitude.

She has also been writing songs since she was always. Those who know her in the music scene have surely seen her since she was little on stages, doing things around them. From rapping with tracks to playing covers of Nirvana with a criolla guitar. Although she is scared to get on stage, it's part of her routine. A while ago, she even felt like she was living something she had already done before.

One of those scenes is in a video and sometimes it is shared on social media. It's an image of her mother, with short hair, singing and dancing enthusiastically, at the end of her pregnancy. “We were very close and I feel like she's with me. Sometimes I feel like she's outside, but other times like she's inside. If I say ‘this is incredible,’ it's like she would say it too. I would love to be able to show her these songs, like: ‘miraaa estooo.’ The car was a dream we shared, and now we have it. When I'm in the car, I feel like she's close. Sometimes I go crazy being my own mother, but I also think it's great. Rosario was always moving forward, who could tell me no to something now?”
