The sound of Laufey is built on a classical foundation that dissolves into jazz melodies with a modern pop touch. Her songs breathe between string arrangements and voices that flow like an intimate dialogue, where each note seems designed to sound close even when it’s far from the ear. It’s not pure jazz nor conventional pop: it’s that blend that emerges when the technique of a conservatory meets the freedom of a college dorm room, and the result is a style that sounds like modern jazz without forced labels.

In 2021, when she released her first EP Typical Of Me, it was already clear she wasn’t following the path of others. Recorded between classes at the Berklee College of Music, the album collected songs written in impossible schedules, with that air of creative chaos that would later become her trademark. By April of that year, the single Street by Street was already topping Icelandic charts, but it was the recognition from artists like Billie Eilish that opened doors for her beyond her home country. That same year, her cover of I Wish You Love caught the attention of American Songwriter, which included it among the best releases of 2021.
