More about Hilarión Correa

Biography

Towards the end of the 1940s, he brought the ensemble “Los Paraguayitos” to life, with whom he made several recordings for the Continental label. Back in Paraguay, around 1950, he had the opportunity to collaborate for a time with the renowned composer and performer Emigdio Ayala Báez. In 1952, a health issue led him to pause his public performances. However, his musical activity did not stop completely; in the 1960s, he worked intensely on recordings with musicians such as Lorenzo Leguizamón, “Papi” Meza, the “Negro” Ayala, Isabelino Valdés, Albino Quiñonez, and the duo Méndez-Sanabria. These recordings were made first for the Guarania label and then for RCA Víctor in Buenos Aires. In 1969, he took a further step by inaugurating his own radio station, “Caaguazú,” in Coronel Oviedo.
