If one had to define the sound of Fred Astaire in one word, it would be "precision". Not just any precision: the kind that makes every step, every gesture, and every sung note seem inevitable, as if music and movement were born together. His style didn’t follow fixed rules but an internal logic where rhythm—whether in a waltz, a foxtrot, or a jazz piece—shaped itself to his body. Later, in the 1940s and 50s, he continued exploring that balance in titles like Holiday Inn, Easter Parade, and The Band Wagon, where even in seemingly simple scenes, such as a tap number in an elevator, he turned space into an instrument.
