More about Chris Isaak
Biography
Before that, in 1987, his second album —Chris Isaak— put him on the map. Recorded with session musicians, the album blended folk ballads with sophisticated R&B, but it was the cover, photographed by Bruce Weber, that defined his aesthetic: tight suits, slicked-back hair, and a gaze that promised more than it said. Three years later, Heart Shaped World cemented his sound: Wicked Game as an anthem, Blue Hotel as a ballad that sounds like goodbye, and Somebody’s Crying as a lament that won’t be forgotten. Later, in 1999, Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing slipped into Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, giving it an aura of mystery few tracks achieve. And though he also tried his hand at acting — from Twin Peaks to his own Showtime show — his music was always the center: a bridge between garage rock and 50s glamour, with Isaak’s voice as the only thread holding it all together.
