Berta Rojas is a distinguished classical guitarist from Paraguay, renowned for her exceptional technique and profound musicality. Her career has been marked by a series of significant achievements, including a Latin Grammy Award for her album Legado in 2022, which also featured the work Anido’s Portrait by Sergio Assad. Throughout her career, she has been nominated on multiple occasions, including her first recognition in 2012 for the album Día y medio, recorded with saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera, as well as other albums such as Salsa Roja and Historia del Tango, the latter in collaboration with the Camerata Bariloche.

From the beginning, Rojas has built an international career that positions her as one of the most relevant figures in the field of contemporary classical guitar. In 1991, the Uruguayan newspaper El País highlighted her ability to explore new emotional dimensions of the instrument. Her talent has been recognized by media outlets such as The Washington Post, which described her as an “extraordinary guitarist,” and by Classical Guitar Magazine, which named her “ambassador of classical guitar.”

Biography

Berta began her musical training at a very young age, receiving lessons from Emiliano Aiub Riveros and later from other teachers such as Felipe Sosa and Violeta de Mestral. At the age of 20, she moved to Uruguay to study with Abel Carlevaro at the Escuela Universitaria de Música, where she earned her degree. Her pursuit of excellence led her to the United States, where she graduated from the Peabody Institute and obtained a master's degree in Music under the guidance of Manuel Barrueco.

Throughout her career, she has performed in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, and has opened important events, including the Summit of First Ladies of the Americas. Her discography includes works that explore Latin American music, such as Salsa Roja and Intimate Barrios, where she pays tribute to composer Agustín Barrios. Additionally, she has maintained a strong commitment to music education, giving masterclasses and creating competitions such as the Barrios WorldWideWeb Competition, which has generated great interest in classical guitar worldwide. Her work has been fundamental in promoting Paraguayan and Latin American music, solidifying her as a key figure in contemporary guitar.
