The Last

When Aventura released The Last in June 2009, a different energy was already palpable. Anthony "Romeo" Santos himself, on the track "Intro", hinted that it might be the end of their journey together, a premonition that would come true in July 2011. This album, recorded between 2008 and 2009 in studios like Legacy Recording Studios in New York City and Kick Back Productions in New Jersey, didn't just stick to its characteristic bachata sound. They ventured into exploring new textures, such as the touch of Europop dance with auto-tune effects in "All Up 2 You", or the dance-pop of "Spanish Fly". The New York Times described it as their most confident and catchy work.

About the album

The Last, according to DoReSol

The impact of The Last was immediate and lasting. It became the best-selling Latin album of 2009 and 2010, topping the Latin Billboard chart for 23 weeks. It debuted at number 5 on the overall Billboard chart and reached number 1 on the Latin Billboard. From this work emerged singles that resonated strongly: "Por Un Segundo", released in November 2008, was their first number 1 on Billboard Hot Latin Tracks and also dominated the Latin Rhythm and Tropical Songs charts. "All Up 2 You", with collaborations from Akon and the duo Wisin & Yandel, reached number 4 on Hot Latin Tracks and number 1 on Latin Rhythm Songs. Another standout track was "Su Veneno", which reached number 4 on Hot Latin Tracks and stayed at number 1 on Billboard Tropical Songs for 5 weeks. Finally, "Dile al Amor", released in October 2009, also conquered the top spot on Billboard Hot Latin Tracks and remained at the summit of Billboard Tropical Songs for 15 weeks.

The production of this album involved several key figures, including Anthony "Romeo" Santos, Gerry Grimaud Jr., Henry Santos Jeter, Wyclef Jean, Jerry Duplessis, and Logic, among others. The collaboration with Wyclef Jean and Ludacris on "Spanish Fly" was one of the highlights, showcasing the group's willingness to fuse their sound with artists from other genres. At the Premio Lo Nuestro 2010 ceremony, The Last was recognized as "Tropical Album of the Year". Furthermore, at the 2010 Billboard Latin Music Awards, held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Aventura took home nine awards, including "Album of the Year" for The Last.
