About the album
Radical Optimism, according to DoReSol
The first three singles—Houdini, Training Season, and Illusion—already signaled the change in direction: the first, with its sticky bassline and chorus that repeats like a spell, climbed to the top 10 in the UK and top 15 on the Billboard Global 200. Training Season, released on Valentine’s Day, plays with the tension of a fading relationship, while Illusion carries chaos and hope into darker territory, almost trip-hop. The album’s cover, featuring Dua alongside a shark, reflects the central idea well: navigating disorder with radical optimism. Among the less-promoted but equally striking tracks are French Exit, with its retro vibe and lyrics about stylish goodbyes, and Falling Forever, where strings blend with electronic beats to create a slow, beautiful sense of falling.
In its debut week, Radical Optimism topped the UK Albums Chart with the highest opening for a British artist in three years, even surpassing Adele’s 2021 release. In the United States, though it didn’t reach number one, it set a record for Lipa’s first-week sales, cementing its position as her highest-charting album on the Billboard 200. The subsequent tour, which launched in November 2024 and ran through December 2025, brought this sound to massive stages across Europe and the Americas, with choreography that amplifies the album’s psychedelic energy. Interestingly, according to Lipa, the album’s concept stemmed from a conversation with a friend years earlier: the idea of embracing chaos with a smile, which ultimately defined not just the lyrics but also the attitude of the recording sessions.
