The story behind

We Can Get Together, according to DoReSol

The song We Can Get Together by the Australian band Flowers, which later adopted the name Icehouse, was released as the second single in September 1980, just before the release of their debut album, Icehouse. This track managed to reach number 16 on the Australian singles charts, marking a strong start for the band. Interestingly, after signing a contract with Chrysalis Records in early 1981, they had to change their name due to legal issues with another Scottish group that was already using the same name. Thus, We Can Get Together was reissued in the United Kingdom under the name Icehouse, both on 7” and 10” vinyl, and later also in the United States.

The composition of this song is credited to Iva Davies, who also handled the production alongside Cameron Allan. The piece is characterized by its new wave sound, capturing the energy and optimism of the era. Additionally, in 2002, a remix version was released as part of the album Meltdown. Over the years, We Can Get Together has been reinterpreted, including a 2006 version by the Australian group Celebrity Drug Disasters. The song’s duration is 3:37, making it a concise and effective piece that reflects the essence of the band in its early days.
