The story behind

Until the End of the World, according to DoReSol

The song Until the End of the World by U2 stands out for its intriguing narrative, which presents a fictional dialogue between Jesus and Judas Iscariot. The lyrics explore key moments from the biblical story, beginning with the Last Supper, moving through the kiss of betrayal in the Garden of Gethsemane, and culminating in Judas' suicide, overwhelmed by guilt. This connection to such deep and universal themes, along with a guitar riff that emerged from a demo called "Fat Boy", makes the song unique in its style and content.

The creation of Until the End of the World dates back to 1990, when U2 recorded the demo at STS Studios in Dublin. However, it was after a conversation with German filmmaker Wim Wenders, who was seeking music for his film of the same name, that the band decided to revisit that riff and develop the song. Bono wrote the lyrics at his father-in-law's house in Wexford, inspired by a brief discussion with The Edge and by the poetry of authors like John Keats. During the recording sessions, the group focused on perfecting the song, adding layers of sound and percussion, which led to an intense creative process. The production was handled by Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, who contributed their vision and experience to shape this track, which became a hit on alternative rock radio in the United States and reached notable positions on popularity charts.
