The story behind
Lucio Battisti wrote "Una donna per amico" together with Mogol, and he sang it himself. It was released in October 1978 as a single, with "Nessun dolore" on the B-side. It was number one on the Italian chart for fourteen consecutive weeks, from November 1978 to February 1979. It was the second best-selling song of the year in Italy, behind "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees.
The song was recorded in studios in Oxfordshire and London, with producer Geoff Westley and session musicians. All the lyrics were written by Mogol, and the music was composed by Lucio Battisti. The album that includes the song, also called "Una donna per amico", was released in December 1978 by the label Numero Uno. It was the fourth best-selling album in Italy in 1978.
