The story behind

Trip Through Your Wires, according to DoReSol

The song Trip Through Your Wires stands out for its blues-influenced rhythm and the inclusion of the harmonica, performed by Bono. This piece is part of the album The Joshua Tree, released in 1987, and is characterized by its enveloping atmosphere, achieved in part thanks to the use of the Omnichord, an electronic instrument that producer Daniel Lanois incorporated during recording. By connecting it to The Edge's equipment, a sound was achieved that, according to Lanois, evoked a resonating organ in the background, adding a unique texture to the song.

The recording of Trip Through Your Wires began in January 1986 in Ireland, and although an early version was presented on a television program in 1986, the song evolved significantly before its release. Interestingly, it was released as a promotional single in Australia, with only 500 hand-numbered copies, which included B-sides such as Luminous Times (Hold on to Love) and Spanish Eyes. During the Joshua Tree Tour, the band performed it on multiple occasions, but it was not played again until the 2017 tour, where they presented the complete album.

An interesting detail is that The Edge mentioned this song was intended to be heard in the context of another that did not make it onto the album, The Sweetest Thing, which was later released as the B-side of Where the Streets Have No Name. This type of connection between their songs shows the complexity and intention behind their creative process. Ultimately, Trip Through Your Wires is not just a musical piece, but a reflection of U2's sonic search at a key moment in their career.
