The story behind

To Face the Truth, according to DoReSol

The song *To Face the Truth* by Pet Shop Boys delves into a sound that strays from what they had been doing. For the album Behaviour, released in 1990, the duo sought to explore textures distinct from previous works like Introspective or the one that would follow, Very. Instead of relying on digital synthesizers and available samples, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe opted for analog equipment. To achieve this, they turned to Harold Faltermeyer, an expert in this type of technology, to produce the album at his Red Deer studio in Munich, Germany (which at the time was West Germany). This choice of equipment and production gave Behaviour a distinctive character within the group’s discography.

Pet Shop Boys, this synth-pop duo from the United Kingdom, formed by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, had already established their presence in the music scene since the mid-1980s. Their journey began when they met in a record store in August 1981. Sharing a passion for music, they decided to collaborate despite their artistic differences. Initially, they considered naming themselves West End but changed to their current name inspired by a friend. The name resonated especially with Neil Tennant due to its similarity to that of a rap group. Their first album, Please, was released in March 1986, propelled by the success of *West End Girls* from October of the previous year, which climbed to the top of charts in several countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States. Following this strong debut, tracks like *Love Comes Quickly* had a more moderate reception. The band, which initially hesitated to perform live, postponed their first tour from 1986 to 1989, while their work Suburbia was already climbing to number 8 on the UK charts.
