The story behind

Time After Time, according to DoReSol

Cyndi Lauper recorded Time After Time in 1983, as part of her first album She's So Unusual. The song was released in January 1984, as the second single. She and Rob Hyman wrote it while working in the studio. They recorded it after most of the album was already done. Hyman was a musician she had just met, and the idea was to record just one more song. They sat at the piano and started writing.

The lyrics came from her problems in relationships. Hyman was getting out of one, and Lauper had difficulties with her boyfriend. One of the first lines she wrote was “suitcase of memories,” which she really liked. The title came from a movie she had in mind, but it ended up being part of the song. The song became one of her most famous hits, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and being nominated for a Grammy. Although she didn't win, it remains one of her most important songs.
