The story behind
The Lucky One, according to DoReSol
The story behind The Lucky One takes us on a journey that began in 1983, when this musical piece was conceived. It was written by Bruce Roberts and produced by Jack White and Robbie Buchanan, who shaped it for Laura Branigan's third album, titled Self Control, released in 1984. The sound that defines it falls within Synth-pop, a genre that explored the possibilities of technology to create immersive atmospheres. This track, with a duration of 4:11, was chosen as the second single from Self Control, released on July 2, 1984.
The impact of The Lucky One was not limited to the charts. Laura Branigan's own performance of this song earned her the prestigious Grand Prix award at the Tokyo Music Festival, held on April 1, 1984, an acknowledgment that included a monetary prize. The music video, filmed in Montecito, California, under the direction of Michael Heldman, presents a visual narrative where Branigan plays a gas station attendant who dreams of being transported to a luxurious mansion to receive etiquette lessons. Later, in 2000, the singer Johnny Logan, of Australian and Irish origin, released his own version of The Lucky One, included in his 1999 album Love Is All.
