The story behind
Summer Soft, according to DoReSol
The piece Summer Soft, with its 4:14 duration, emerges from a crucial moment in Stevie Wonder's career. It was conceived and arranged by himself, who also took on production. This song is part of Songs in the Key of Life, an ambitious triple album released on September 28, 1976, under the Tamla Records label, a division of Motown. This work is considered by many to be the pinnacle of a creative period that Wonder began in 1972 with Music of My Mind.
By 1974, Stevie Wonder was already a prominent figure in popular music. His previous albums, such as Music of My Mind (1972), Talking Book (1972), Innervisions (1973), and Fulfillingness' First Finale (1974), had consecutively garnered critical acclaim. However, in March 1975, Wonder came close to leaving the music industry, even considering emigrating to Ghana to help children with disabilities. Preparations for a farewell concert had begun, but Wonder reconsidered his decision. Born Stevland Hardaway Judkins in Saginaw, Michigan, on May 13, 1950, Stevie Wonder, blind since childhood, established himself as one of Motown's most successful artists, selling over 100 million records and accumulating 22 Grammy Awards. His dexterity spans multiple instruments, including piano, harmonica, and keyboard, which, along with the quality and versatility of his work, reflects his musical genius.
